FOCUS THEME: SUSTAINABLE INDIA

Background

Our Modern lives are significantly impacted by Innovative products and services featuring value-added functions through integration of electronics, optics, and mechanics in micro and nanodimensions.  These products called “hardwares” represent innovations in multi-disciplinary silicon-based sciences and technologies. The “services” primarily came from the innovative developments and applications of “softwares”, enabling the intelligent applications of the hardwares. These products and services are being pervasively applied today in nearly all aspects of human endeavors including communication, information processing, health, imaging, renewable energy, transportation etc. This accounts for nearly a quarter of global productivity today.

 In this backdrop, this planet earth has been facing crisis in sustainability due to rapid growth of human population, deforestation, increasing applications of fossil fuel for energy etc. causing global warming with catastrophic consequences. Consequently, we face depletion of life forces such as oxygen, ozone layer, potable water, and many species, vital for food chain.

 Yet, a newer form of multi-disciplinary science and technology is beginning to emerge which holds great promise to address the sustainability crisis. This emerging form integrates: Artificial Intelligence [AI] with recently invented 2D semiconductor materials & devices, combined with or without conventional silicon-based hardwares, all integrated over Flexible substrates. Such framework provides sensor-based smart platforms with innovative applications to address the global and local sustainability issues.

This new technology frontier will account for greater global productivity in forth coming decades. Innovative, products and services, as above, will be essential in addressing all aspects of sustainability. India needs to engage vigorously its vast young talents to develop and create entrepreneurships towards such products and services to attain global leadership and prosperity.

Objective

The objective for this conference is to address the future time-driven undertakings required to seize the forth coming opportunities for India in establishing India in a leadership role at the world-stage.The conference in the form of a plenary session followed by multiple workshops and interactive sessions will examine and demonstrate the need for training, organizational development, resource, and methodology to overcome all barriers in achieving success for INDIA.

Preamble

Current Time frame is critical for INDIA to establish strong foothold in the emerging opportunity of Developing and producing value-added and innovative Products, coupled with Applications and Services for addressing Sustainability within India and across the globe.

To transform the planet habitable for the future generations, the environment, energy, water, health, and awareness of impending unsustainability are of primary concern.

This requires making available the products and services which are cost effective and affordable. The “Silicon Age” for the past half-a-century provided continuous scaling of electronic functions at progressively reduced energy, cost with performance enhancements. Such progression will evolve into flexible and 2D forms with further enhancements in attributes, scalability and affordability at lower energy consumption and enhanced performance.

With progressive integration of modern electronics with software and core sciences ushered the era of IOTs, Smart Phones, Robotics, Drones, security, health, environment and early applications of Artificial Intelligence. Thus, we are provided with AI-enriched electronics services applied in Health, Weather Prediction and Autonomous Transport. Unfortunately, India’s share of this prosperity is marginal at best.

India continues to remain a significant consumer and a major market place for the nations who innovated and participated in the development of the current technology revolution.

We are at a unique juncture to alter the current status of India from a consumer nation of hi-tech products to a producing nation.

In this back drop, the application of technology would be virtually all-encompassing. This new phase of technology especially in sensor, chips, material, manufacturing, computation etc. would have capacity to address most aspects of life and sustainability for our planet and beyond. We have mentioned earlier the sustainability concerns of our environment, energy issues, air and water pollution, interconnected health, communications and transport challenges etc., to name a few.

At the same time, India is in an enviable position with the capacity of providing millions of talented young men and women in arts, science, technology, commerce and management to enable India to become a major producer, enabler, and leader among nations in this new field of integrated electronics. Thus, India could be poised to provide innovative solutions for global sustainability challenges and significantly boost her productivity and prosperity.
